Roger Federer said Rafael Nadal is the "overwhelming favourite" to win the French Open after the Swiss player lost in straight sets to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals on Friday.
Whatever happens, it will be a historic occasion, with Nadal going for a seventh Roland Garros title, beating the record he currently shares with Bjorn Borg, while Djokovic is bidding to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four grand slams at once.
Djokovic and Federer played a classic semi-final last year, which the Swiss player won, so hopes were high for Friday's encounter, but it did not live up to the hype as the world number one ran out a 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 winner.
A second set full of twists and turns was the key but the wind affected the quality of the match and in the end Federer simply made too many errors, while Nadal trounced David Ferrer 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
Federer has struggled for form all fortnight, but he felt he could take confidence away from Friday's match with him on to the grass.
He said: "The semi-finals is, at the end of the day, a very good result for any tennis player. For me, too. I wish I could have done a bit better, especially with the wasted opportunities. But that's how it goes sometimes.
