Monday 28 May: As it happens - Roland Garros 2012

11.37 am: They’re dropping like flies! Feliciano Lopez is out, having limped off at 5-0 down in the first set. French qualifier Florent Serra is through. And Frank Dancevic, Canada’s No.3, has pulled out of his match against Martin Klizan.

OK, Serra is through to face the winner of Beck and Kubot, which was 4-4 in the third, Kubot two sets up, when night fell last night. Klizan meanwhile has Mahut to look forward to after the tall Frenchie defeated a morose Andy Roddick last night.

11.29 am: Vera Zvonareva is out! The No.11 seed has pulled out injured (no more news than that yet). Her place in the draw to face Hungary’s Timea Babos in the first round by lucky loser Sesil Karatantcheva from Kazakhstan. Poor BEPA.

11.19 am: Chatrier’s under way with Vika Azarenka, world No.1 and top seed, in action against Alberta Brianti. They have met thrice in the past with the Monte Carlo-based Belarusian taking all three. Vika made the quarters here back in 2009 when she lost to eventual finalist Dinara Safina, whom we wish well as she comes to terms with life without tennis due to her back problems (she’s not officially retired yet but I hear from sources very close to her - *cough* Marat *cough* - that she won’t be coming back).

Onyhoo, Vika’s broken and held to open. And Dommie Cib has broken back, held and broken up to lead 3-1.
And in better news for the Frenchies, qualifier Florent Serra has broken to open against Feliciano Lopez, No.15 seed and regularly ogled by Andy Murray’s Mum, GB Fed Cup captain Judy.

11.15 am: On Lenglen we have an opposition in styles – Kiki Mladenovic, French junior champ and rising star, against Dominika Cibulkova. Kiki’s 6’2, eyes of blue while Domi Cib is a little munchkin of a thing. And “our Kiki” (as she’s a Frenchie, despite her name) has broken to open! Allez!

10.50 am: Mesdames et messieus, bonjour ! Welcome to day 2 at the French, with the top half of the drws on either side hopefully being finished off. That means Novak, Na Li, Vika, Gilles, Rog, Marion and Aga, and many, many more. 58 matches in total - my fingers are going to explode!
