Olympics 2012 - Roger Federer One Step Away To Reach Gold Medal Moment!

ROGER FEDERER OUSTS JOHN ISNER TO QUALIFY FOR THE SEMI-FINALS

Roger Federer ousts John Isner to qualify for the semi-finals – London Olympics
World number one, Roger Federer, advanced to the last-four stage at the Olympics for the second time in his career, after defeating USA’s 10th seeded player, John Isner, in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(5) in the quarter-finals of the London Games.
Federer needed just an hour and 25 minutes to win this match on the grass courts of All England Club on Thursday.
The Swiss Maestro had reached his first semi-final in singles category back in 2000, when he made his Olympics debut at the Sydney Games. However, he lost that contest and also went on to lose the Bronze medal match.
Coming back to his latest encounter with Isner, Federer and the American player made a steady start, as they held their serve in the first eight games to take the score to 4-4. The Swiss star managed to grab a breakthrough in the ninth and served it out at 5-4.
Federer and Isner gave a flawless performance on their serve in the second set, as none of the two players dropped it throughout, equalising the score at 6-6 and taking it to a tie-breaker. Both players were trying their best to capture lead but there was no success for either of them in the first 10 points, levelling the proceedings at 5-5. Federer sent in a majestic serve to win a point and take the score to 6-5 and a net cord return on the next one sealed the set for him with a score line of 7-6(5).
The Swiss legend was really happy after his brilliant performance. He said, “I think I am playing my best. I don’t know if I can play a whole lot better. Overall, I’m extremely happy. Obviously, being in the medal matches, at least I’ll get two shots. That’s why I looked at this match as a final. You can imagine the relief and happiness I feel right now."
Federer will play the eighth seed from Argentina, Juan Martin Del Potro, in the semi-finals.
Talking about the Argentinean, Federer added, “I’m not surprised he’s made it to the semis. He’s played a lot of tennis this year. I think he took advantage of the draw here and then was able to come through convincingly. I have my hands full with Juan Martin. He’s a big player with a big serve.”
This Swiss Maestro leads Del Potro 12-2 in the head to head series, after their 14 previous meetings.
