The latest to withdraw from the Rogers Cup is Roger Federer, who won an epic Olympic match today against Juan Martin del Potro. Federer faces Andy Murray (in a rematch of the Wimbledon final) Sunday in the gold-medal match.
Federer is one of many who have withdrawn from the Toronto tournament. Others include Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro, Fernando Verdasco, Gael Monfils, Stan Wawrinka and Andy Roddick.
The main draw begins next week.
“I am very disappointed that I have to withdraw from Toronto as I love the city and the Canadian fans are amazing. I have always enjoyed playing there but after a long stretch of tournaments, I will need some time to recover,” Federer told Rogers Cup officials. “I look forward to coming back to Canada next year.”
Federer and the others are still slated to come to Mason for the Western & Southern Open, which starts next weekend with qualifying.
